Reopening The Malt House

The Malt House- Vanston Place, Fulham

Situated on Vanston Place, Fulham, The Malt House reopened its doors in January 2013 following new ownership and a fantastic makeover.

The gastro pub is being operated under the watchful eye of owners Claude and Cedric Bosi, whilst head chef Marcus McGuinness is serving up a delicious menu of classic British dishes.

All of the ingredients used in The Malt House’s menu are sourced from a select list of trusted producers and independent farmers. Meanwhile, courses include pan fried bream, with Moroccan spiced couscous, yoghurt and coriander, as well as honey & mustard glazed ham hock with creamy mash.

Backed by an imaginative wine list, the dishes on offer at The Malt House are certainly impressive, however as well as a fine selection of food and drink the building also houses six luxurious en-suite bedrooms. Guests can choose from The Copper, The Kiln, The Maltings, Bushel, Barley or Hops, where they can spend a perfect night, following a perfect evening.

Work began on transforming The Malt House in October 2012 and reached completion in January 2013. Metz Construction was the main contractor on the project, whilst expert design practice Alexander Waterworth Interiors was the interior designer on the site.

Discussing The Malt House, Alexander Waterworth Interiors Company Director, James Waterworth, said:

“The Malt House is the sister site to the Fox & Grapes in Wimbledon, which was opened by Claude Bosi in 2011. Before it underwent its recent transformation, the site operated under The Malt House name, however it now has new owners, a new menu and a new design.

“The Malt House is an old pub, so when working on the design we wanted to keep as much of the site’s original flavour and history as possible. We continued the panelling throughout the building, maintained the timber flooring and reused some Victorian tiles.

“Transforming The Malt House from what it was to what it is now was quite straight forward without any major problems. One of the biggest challenges involved the reconstruction of the roof, as well as new entrance for the bedrooms which are housed above the restaurant.”

James added:

“Our aim for this site was to keep it simple, so that customers would still see it as a good old fashioned pub, with a very smart restaurant. The food is a contemporary take on old British food, so we wanted the building to almost become a canvas that would complement the dishes and this was the core focus of the design process.

“Lighting was carefully considered and is reflective of the building’s history, whilst we have also included a few elements that have made it a bit more modern.”

As well as an internal dining area, The Malt House also includes some external seating, providing al fresco dining during the warmer months of the year. Since the site opened in January, the gastro pub has received great feedback from customers new and old.

Fellow co-founder, Alexander, said:

“Every project has its own importance and its own uniqueness, so whenever we first get involved with a site there are many things to consider. We take influences from the local area right through to the food in order to get the design just right.

“As a designer you have to love the project, otherwise the design process does not run the way it should and it shows in the end result.”

Alexander added:

“To be associated with Claude Bosi and his team is very important to us. We have worked with Claude before and have a good working relationship with him.

“Since The Malt House has reopened it has received many positive reviews, with many comments understandably aimed at the exquisite food. We wanted to create a place where people could go at anytime during the day and still get the same atmosphere, and that’s exactly what we have achieved.”

The Malt House is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. For more information about The Malt House or to make a booking, please visit: www.malthousefulham.co.uk.
