Drilling & Sawing Association

Formed in 1984, the Drilling & Sawing Association (DSA) represents the interests of a range of companies that are involved within the drilling and sawing association.

For the past 30 years the DSA has been committed to improving standards within the industry and does this by establishing codes of safe working practice, education and training.

Membership to the association is open to all drilling and sawing contractors, including suppliers of drilling and sawing equipment. Those who join will raise their profile amongst the industry, will save money, will keep up to date with the latest industry developments & information and will benefit from the latest training.

The DSA’s training is designed to provide members with the relevant qualifications required to complete a task to the best of their ability. Not only do the qualifications ensure a high standard of work, they also instil a level of trust between the members and their clients.

Qualifications that are achieved via DSA training including an NVQ Level 2 in Drilling & Sawing; CSCS Cards in Drilling & Sawing; and qualifications for drilling and sawing at NVQ Level 3 and above. In addition, the DSA offers a range of training courses covering subjects relevant to the industry as well as the ability to liaise with construction industry sources such as Construction Skills (CITB), CSCS Management and the National Specialist Assessment Centre (NSAC).

The DSA focuses on a number of specialist techniques, from hand, wall and wire sawing to core drilling, crushing and bursting. The DSA also has a guide to tolerances and limits for construction drilling and sawing.

2014 marks the DSA’s 30th year in the industry – a fantastic achievement which demonstrates the association’s commitment to the construction industry. Over the past three decades the association has continued to provide a one-stop shop for all members, individuals and companies.

Throughout 2014 the DSA has conducted free specialist roadshows to highlight its work. The final roadshow of the year took place on 9th September at the Macdonald Holyrood Hotel in Edinburgh.

A spokesperson for the DSA, said:

“The DSA is the only organisation that represents the interests of companies involved in the drilling and sawing industry and is committed to improving standards within the industry by establishing better codes of safe working practice, education and training.

“We keep all our members up to date with the latest information on legislation via several means, to ensure the information is received. We do this by email, our website and our quarterly newsletters. Raise your profile using our Mark of Quality brochure to promote your company standards and safe working practice.

“We provide members with vehicle stickers and our logo for company stationary to prove they are a reputable contractor to generate business and give themselves a competitive edge. Company information will be listed on the DSA website and in our Concrete Cutter Magazine, which is distributed to 1000s of potential clients.

“We also actively encourage our members to have their say. We hold an annual general meeting where all members can attend and have their say. The board meets every quarter where all comments, issues and ideas from any members can be discussed and if necessary materialised.”
