Located on Mount Road, Wolverhampton, The Mount Hotel & Conference Centre is a stunning 65-bedroom hotel, boasting a fantastic collection of rooms, suites and conference facilities.
The hotel is housed within a Grade II Listed manor house and provides the perfect place to rest, enjoy a relaxing break or to celebrate a wedding.
Over the course of the last three years The Mount Hotel has been given a fantastic makeover, transforming and updating the offering so that guests are provided with the best facilities possible. Work began on the project in January 2012, with Select Developments on board as the main contractor. The project reached completion in June 2015.
Speaking to Premier Hospitality about the refurbishment, Scott Bernard, the owner of The Mount Hotel & Conference Centre, said:
“I bought the hotel out of receivership – it was tired and in need of attention, however it had so much potential, especially as a premier wedding venue for the area, I wanted to make sure it could become a hotel that could keep up with the times.
“The first thing we did was set out to work on an extensive refurbishment, covering all areas of the hotel. We refurbished all the communal areas, the conference centre, the bar and all our bedrooms; then we added a champagne bar as well as a new restaurant, which was recently awarded an AA rosette.”
Whilst work was being undertaken on the project the hotel remained open, with all work carefully planned so not to disturb guests. In order to do this, Scott systematically shut off sections of the hotel so that his team could work on the refurbishment in phases.
“From January to March 2012 we shut off the bar and restaurant and introduced a temporary bar and restaurant whilst we worked on this area. Every year thereafter we worked on 20-30 bedrooms, always between January and March, until we managed to complete the project.
“Work ran very well, even though it was perhaps even more of an extensive refurbishment than I first thought.”
The Mount Hotel showcases a range of accommodation options, from standard, deluxe and executive rooms, through to suites and serviced apartments.
Standard rooms are decorated to reflect a traditional layout and include a range of features, from LCD TVs with built in Freeview to direct dial telephones, complimentary Wi-Fi and en-suite bathrooms. Deluxe rooms have king size beds for double or twin occupancy, high speed Wi-Fi, 32 inch LCD TVs and luxury toiletries.
Executive rooms have been designed to offer more space, with many rooms including their own sitting area. A wing of executive rooms is housed within the hotel’s courtyard and these include parking facilities directly outside of rooms. Features of the executive rooms include 32 inch LCD TVs, iPod docking units, queen size beds and bottles of still/sparkling water and more.
The hotel’s suites are located in the original Manor House and are quite spacious, with a separate dining area incorporated into each room, suitable for breakfast or dinner. Suites include all the features found in standard rooms, plus many of the features found in the executive rooms.
The Mount Hotel’s final accommodation option is the hotel’s collection of serviced apartments, which provide guests with a veritable home-from-home. The serviced apartments are set across two floors and include an en-suite bath and shower, separate lounge and kitchen facilities, a Nintendo Wii, a corner sofa and a private secluded entrance.
Although work on the refurbishment has been completed, Scott is far from finished and has plans to enhance The Mount Hotel even further.
“As far as the refurbishment programme goes it is complete, but I have submitted planning permission for additional bedrooms and a spa. I have also put in planning permission for a lift.
“When I bought the hotel it was a 3* hotel, but now the work is complete we are going to be reassessed so that we can become a 4* hotel.
“The Mount Hotel & Conference Centre is now at a level that meets the demands of the local area. There is no reason for guests not to choose this hotel over any other.”
As well as offering guests a relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings, The Mount Hotel & Conference Centre is also the perfect place for a wedding. The hotel offers several places to tie the knot: The Great Hall, The Manders Suite and The Garden.
The Great Hall is the largest room at the hotel and is capable of accommodating up to 150 guests at the ceremony and up to 125 guests seated for the wedding breakfast. The Manders Suite – named after the Manders family who originally built the hotel in 1865 – can accommodate up to 100 guests for both civil ceremonies and seated guests for a wedding breakfast. Meanwhile, The Garden is one of the only venues in the Midlands capable of accommodating a civil ceremony.
