The facilities will be a part of the new look Huddersfield station, which has undergone a complete re-brand after the launch of TPE on April 1st 2016.

The First Class lounge, located on platform one, is the first facility of its kind at Huddersfield for at least 60 years and a first for TPE. The lounge will be open to customers seven days a week, offering sofas, work stations (including power points), free wifi, food throughout the day, a self-serve hot drinks machine and a television. The lounge also has its own toilet facilities.

The three new glass waiting rooms can be found on platforms one, two and between platforms four and eight. The waiting rooms are heated and will provide a modern and comfortable waiting environment. The waiting rooms will be open to customers from 6am-9pm, seven days a week.

The improvements will benefit over 7,000 customers who use Huddersfield every day to travel to Leeds, Manchester and right across the North of England and Scotland.

Kathryn O’Brien, TPE’s Customer Experience Director, said: “I’m delighted that we were able to secure funding through the NSIP to improve the journeys of all of our customers who travel through Huddersfield. Over the next four years we are going to be completely transforming our customer experience, and through station upgrades, better on-board catering and of course new trains we will deliver an outstanding intercity rail service that will take the North further.”

Councillor Liam Robinson, Chair of the Rail North Limited Board, said: “It is good to see investment in station-wide improvements at Huddersfield. Passengers will benefit from three new glass waiting rooms, space for 54 cycles in new racks and a First Class lounge. These will all help TPE in their mission to become the intercity operator for the North of England.”

Lisa McGuiness, Commercial Scheme Sponsor for Network Rail said: “The on-going improvements taking place at Huddersfield station will enhance the waiting areas and shelters for passengers to make catching the train a more pleasant experience. Network Rail has worked closely with TPE throughout this project, which has been funded by the Department for Transport, with the shared aim of improving the station for those who use it and I am confident passengers will be pleased with what has been achieved.”

The station’s car park has received extra lighting, whilst work is still being completed on a new cycling rack on platform one with spaces for 54 bikes.
