New age of opulence for The Living Room

 Living Room

Following an impressive and comprehensive design makeover, Manchester’s stylish Deansgate cocktail bar The Living Room has just re-opened with an opulent new look, including two new branded concept rooms in partnership with Grey Goose and Haig Club.

The venue, which opened in 1999 and is owned by the Stonegate Pub company, has long been the haunt of premier footballers and TV stars now sports a stunning design transformation with a modern new look. Gone is the old dark leather seating – replaced by pastel pink and mint green booths and banquettes, enhanced by geometric patterns and gold art deco accents.

Designers for the scheme were Fusion by Design, with Myriad Contractors carrying out the fit out.

A new mezzanine level overlooking the downstairs bar has been created from the former first floor dining room area as part of the refurbishment.

The new Grey Goose Lounge specialising in vodka cocktails has also been created on the first floor, serving vodka cocktails in surroundings inspired by the French Riviera and including light blue and white painted wood panelling, window shutters and palm tree prints.

Drinks, ranging from simple mixers to the room’s signature cocktail, the Le Fizz, which combines St-Germain elderflower liqueur with freshly squeezed lime juice and soda water to create a sublime, elegant alternative to Champagne.

A further flight of stairs leads to the new The Haig Club Clubman room on the top floor, which specialises in whisky and is decorated in shades of deep blue with hints of neon, and offers a number of bespoke cocktails. The last word in luxury, the room features leather furnishings, a private bar and bespoke booths.

Abbie Burnett interior designer at Fusion by Design said: “There are a lot of new sites opening up in Manchester that are really pushing the boundaries. I think that the client felt that although the venue continued to trade well, it needed to be brought up to speed in line with the developing bar and restaurant circuit in central Manchester.”

“The emphasis from the brief was that the venue should not be over-designed and for it to adopt a classically simple and elegant look and feel, allowing the space to speak for itself.”

“I wanted to create real wow factor with the main bar servery as this is situated centrally in the unit and is linked visually to the first-floor restaurant. We incorporated marble and brass detailing alongside plush leather to enhance the premium feel and give the site a great ‘shop front’ to display product.”

“This was an incredibly fast track project and a logistical challenge to complete the work on time, however everyone rallied around to meet the tight deadline.

“The work started on site on September 5th and the project was handed over on October 6th, in time for its scheduled opening by David Beckham on October 10th.

“This was a massively important project for us. We have worked with this client for a long time and were fortunate enough to be entrusted with such an iconic site and given the flexibility to deliver what we felt was the right design for the space.”

According to The Living Room: “Ever since opening, The Living Room has crafted a legendary reputation that doesn’t cease at the city’s borders. Already one of Manchester’s most revered cocktail bars and restaurants, this major refurbishment will amplify its offering.”
