Train company TransPennine Express (TPE) is celebrating after scooping the Sustainability & Environmental Excellence award at the Rail Business Awards.
The award was presented to the company that could demonstrate the development and introduction of the most successful environmental innovation within the UK rail industry. It was TPE’s Sustainable Development Plan that impressed the judges, which includes initiatives to lower carbon emissions on trains and at stations, integrate walking and cycling as part of the overall journey, and support communities through fundraising, volunteering and grants.
Iain Peacock, Environment and Emergency Planning Manager for TPE, said: “I am absolutely thrilled that we have picked up the Sustainability & Environmental Excellence award. A lot of hard work has gone into creating our Sustainable Development Plan, which is already having a really positive impact across the North of England and into Scotland, so for this to be recognised is excellent.”
The ceremony took place at the London Hilton Park Lane on Thursday 22 February.
