Contractor Novus Property Solutions has secured a £142,000 contract to deliver a series of repairs to a day centre for people who have disabilities in Solihull.

The five-week project for Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council will see Novus upgrade lighting, block doorways, add wall partitions, provide new flooring, and decorate communal areas and office spaces at the Park View building.

The Park View building currently caters for adults with physical and sensory disabilities and adults who have a learning disability. Each service is designed to provide meaningful activities and help people to be independent, develop social skills and ensure their care and support needs are met.

Once completed, the new building will host services for older adults, allowing them to move into the building for the first time. The alterations will also create dedicated spaces for the specialist needs of Park View’s different client groups. Those with learning disabilities will have access to a new domestic activity kitchen and café area while older users will benefit from a newly refurbished lounge area. As well as being more user friendly, the space will also include improved door access and security.

Works at the 17,000 sq ft building will be carried out while the centre stays in use, with Novus carefully managing the project around the day-to-day activities.

Darren Bowkett, operations manager at Novus Property Solutions, said: “The Park View building provides vital day services to adults and their families around Solihull. The works will modernise the centre, helping the teams there to continue their work for years to come.

“Community initiatives are a big part of our own culture at Novus. It’s great to work with partners like Park View on projects like this where our skills have a direct lasting impact on the community.”
