Iconic Malaysian resort The Datai Langkawi has begun the year on a high after it was named in Harper’s Bazaar The Ultimate Travel Guide 2020. Showcasing the 100 best luxury hotels and travel experiences from around the globe by landscape, The Datai has been selected as one of the top ten resorts within the ‘Jungle’ category. It is commended for its mesmerising nature and visionary architecture, nestled in the heart of an ancient virgin rainforest.

Another accolade that comes after a hugely successful 2019 for The Datai Langkawi following a comprehensive 12-month renovation programme, is recognition in Condé Nast Traveller’s 2019 Hot List and The Best Hotels and Resorts In The World: The 2020 Gold List. The respected annual awards list recognises the world’s top properties, as discerningly selected by the magazine’s editors. This year’s annual Gold List is the first transatlantic list, curated by Condé Nast Traveler teams in New York and London.

In September 2019, The Datai also celebrated being named one of only 37 hotels in the ‘World’s Greatest Places 2019’ by internationally renowned Time magazine. Championing groundbreaking hotels, restaurants and attractions that have wowed industry peers and offer visitors an experience unlike any other, the prestigious annual list of 100 destinations was based on key factors such as quality, originality, innovation and sustainability.

Adding to its portfolio of 149 awards to date, The Datai also scooped up two awards at the prestigious Destination Deluxe Award 2019, for ‘Hotel Design of the Year’ and ‘Resort of the Year’, and the resort’s award-winning restaurant, The Gulai House, was rated amongst the ‘Top 20 Best Restaurants’ in Malaysia at the Malaysian Tatler T.Dining Awards – the only restaurant out of Kuala Lumpur to be included in the prestigious list.

In an exciting milestone, The Datai Langkawi is also celebrating being the first organisation in the world to be awarded the EarthCheck ECO Certification for terrestrial (land based) tourism projects. EarthCheck, the world’s leading scientific benchmarking and certification group for sustainable tourism, has recognised the resort’s ongoing commitment toward sustainable hotel practices and efficiently manage energy, waste and natural resources.
