A boutique hotel in the New Forest is celebrating after it was named as a finalist at The International Hotel & Property Awards 2023.

Shortlisted in the ‘Hotel Design – Europe Award’ category, Stanwell House, a privately owned boutique hotel situated in the centre of Lymington, Hampshire, recently underwent an extensive multi-million-pound refurbishment project. The hotel will now come up against nine other hospitality design projects from across Europe in a bid to win the prestigious accolade.

The International Hotel & Property Awards aims to provide a global platform for leading designers and architects in the hospitality industry, recognising and rewarding creative and design excellence.

Jojo Macnamara, a Hampshire-based interior designer, was tasked with reimagining the renovations of Stanwell House, working alongside the owners and main contractors, Charnic Interiors. Jojo had to strike a balance between creating a contemporary and relevant environment whilst being sympathetic to the history and character of the building.

During the renovation, much of the hotel’s previous interior was removed, taking it back to its original structure whilst preserving and showcasing historic elements – allowing the venue to realise its full potential.

Lance Bartlett, General Manager at Stanwell House, said: “We were very pleased with the way Jojo brought the design to life, creating colourful and contrasting rooms throughout the hotel, giving each area a unique personality.

“The decor and design has been a big talking point amongst our guests during the first two months since our reopening, which proves what a great job was done. It makes us stand out from the rest, and that has now been recognised at the highest level.”

Now in its 12th year, The International Hotel & Property Awards are hosted by design et al, a leading UK interior design magazine, with the aim to commend design, recognise talent, create opportunities and offer inspiration.

Shortlisted entries are presented online, and voting is open to industry professionals as well as design et al readers, clients and customers, before the winners are announced at an awards ceremony in London later in the year.
