Skills Development Scotland Awards Apprenticeship Contract to Develop Training

Develop Training Limited (DTL), a national training provider to the utilities sector, has won a new contract from Skills Development Scotland to deliver Modern Apprenticeships.

DTL has been on the approved list of apprenticeship providers in Scotland since 2012 and already delivers programmes for SGN and Scottish Water at its Linlithgow training centre near Edinburgh.

The new round of funding will cover at least 45 new apprenticeship places, and the number could grow if there is enough demand from employers and candidates.

Chris Wood, Chief Executive of DTL, said: “We are delighted to have been successful with our tender to Skills Development Scotland. Winning this contract will enable us to deliver more apprenticeships for new customers, and extend our role in helping to tackle the industry’s chronic skills shortage.”

DTL delivers a wide range of programmes under the Modern Apprenticeship scheme in the water and gas sectors, including network construction, domestic national gas installation and maintenance, and level seven management apprenticeships.

Modern Apprenticeships (MAs) help employers to develop their workforce by training new staff, and up-skilling existing employees. Open to candidates aged 16 upwards, MAs let people earn a wage while gaining an industry-recognised qualification.

Employers receive a contribution to the cost of the training, which Skills Development Scotland pays to the approved provider, such as DTL. Each year, more than 27,000 people start a Modern Apprenticeship in Scotland.
