Staged every two years in Lille, in the heartland of the French railway industry, SIFER provides industry professionals with a unique opportunity to keep track of market trends, meet face-to-face, exchange ideas, and explore new avenues for business. For instance, it was here at SIFER that the network of rail-industry clusters was formed.
Since 1999, SIFER, (France’s only B2B international industry exhibition), brings together suppliers and manufacturers of the very latest in railway technology, and products and services that are aimed at meeting the complex needs of the main line and urban networks throughout France and Europe.
Within the space of 20 years SIFER has become the must-attend international event for stakeholders from across all sectors of the railway industry. From major industry contractors, equipment manufacturers, suppliers and sub-contractors to public-transport operators and management authorities, the event is attended by all. Those exhibitors will include representatives of:
- Main line and urban rail operators
- Infrastructure authorities
- Vehicle builders
- Maintenance and refurbishment companies
- Infrastructure construction and maintenance contractors
- Suppliers seeking industry partners
- Rail transport policy makers, planners and consultants
The show is taking place on the 26th, 27th and 28th March, and as well as being a gateway to one of Europe’s major markets – it also helps participating companies to pursue export opportunities, thanks to the ever growing track record attracting international visitors. As the showcase event for the French railway supply industry, it sets the scene for wide-ranging and productive exchanges on the future of the industry, and for new contacts and relationships between businesses.
SIFER 2019 is already racking in the numbers, as 400 businesses from 17 different countries have already confirmed their slots at the event, with a stunning figure of 149 new companies participating for the first time.
The 11th SIFER, the 2019 event is set to be the biggest event in its time. Amongst the already registered exhibitors are several digi tech companies and business start-ups. This year, SIFER will be opening up even more exhibition space to accommodate this increasing number of businesses that wish to showcase their innovations during the 3 day event. Floor space has also been increased to enhance the visitor experience. A significant part of the extra exhibition space is dedicated to the railway infrastructure zone, increasing its total floor space by close to 50%. The infrastructure sector is the main driver in today’s railway market and accounts for more than one third of the whole exhibition floor space.
The show programme is beginning to take shape and already promises a number of great events by prominent partners, including a round table discussion hosted by Ville, Rail & Transport, titled ‘Does the European rail industry need a champion?’ There are several more events with a focus on digital technologies, including a conference hosted by BTP Rail and the i-Trans-ERCI Innovation Awards ceremony; and an event hosted by FIF on the new French rail-industry pact.
This event comes at a critical time for the railway industry across Europe. As always, SIFER’s primary focus is to serve as a showcase for the industry itself, casting the spotlight on the direction in which it is heading, in terms of its upcoming innovations and its projects. The ‘Grand Paris’ project and the digitalisation of the industry will be at the centre of discussions. Autonomous trains, predictive maintenance, project route and data security, track maintenance, access to passenger information, the opening up of the passenger transport market, and job roles of the future will also be discussed and exhibited over the 3 days.
