Cocoa lovers are in for a treat as the annual York Chocolate Festival returns to the ancient city from 18 – 22 April. To further celebrate the food of the gods, The Cookery School at The Grand, York is hosting a Chocolate Trio class on Saturday 20 April, coinciding perfectly with the festivities.

York is a veritable cocoa powerhouse, and home to some of the nation’s most famous brands. Since the 18th century, chocolate has been made and enjoyed along the banks of the River Ouse, with up to 25% of York’s population being involved in the industry at one point.

Delight in the weekend of sweet festivities, taking place on Parliament Street and in the historic Shambles Market. Meet artisan chocolate makers, watch demonstrations, and indulge in chocolate liqueurs, pretty truffles, glorious cakes, biscuits, solid slabs and more.

After tasting the liquid gold in its variety of fashions, chocoholics can literally get stuck in with The Cookery School’s course. Attendees will be invited to master the art of the chocolatier during three rich hours of tuition from head chef tutor, Andrew Dixon, and his team.

Kick things off with a classic – craft your very own chocolate bar slab with a selection of flavourings. Then make a velvety smooth chocolate soufflé, drizzled with a rich chocolate sauce. Finish things off by watching the ultimate chocolate cake, with oranges and Grand Marnier, being created by Andrew. As with every course at The Cookery School, the food produced is yours to consume.

On the chocolate filled weekend, Andrew Dixon commented; “In the city of chocolate, during a festival dedicated to the stuff, we jumped at the opportunity to give our guests the opportunity to learn how to make their favourite guilty pleasures at home. Whilst it can be notoriously tricky to handle, this class aims to enlighten students with the skills to tackle their chocolate ambitions.”

With over 2,500 square foot of step-free space, The Cookery School has 16 workstations equipped with a state-of-the-art induction hob, electric oven and premium cookery equipment. There is also an external courtyard complete with herb garden and seating area.

Chocolate Trio class priced from £79pp. For the full class programme, see here.
