The origins of luxury outerwear brand, Mackage can be found in the winters of Montreal, Canada. Founded in 1999 by Eran Elfassy, who was inspired by his brothers’ experience in the leather industry, he was subsequently joined by Elisa Dahan. Together they went on to develop one of the most prestigious and contemporary outerwear brands worldwide today.
Their mission statement is clear; to elevate outerwear with a unique balance between fashion and function. The Mackage collections combine only the finest leathers, down and wool. Tailoring and attention to detail is consistent across all lines.
With international success and various UK concessions already in place within luxury retailers such as Harrods and Selfridges, Mackage decided to give advocates of the brand the opportunity to experience and purchase their fine range of apparel in their first UK stand-alone store.
The solution has come through a pop-up store that opened September 12th on London’s exclusive Sloane Street. Over a six month period the space provides the perfect platform to launch a stand-alone store, testing response to location and demographic, while being flexible enough to create an engaging and adaptable retail environment, to facilitate brand awareness and growth.
The design of the pop-up is a nod towards the brand’s global store concept. Here, the merchandise takes centre stage and is further enhanced by the strong contrast provided by a black floor and ceiling. Angular metal display racks and striking statuario marble plinths are balanced by the softening effect of wood, which is used in display materials and the ceiling beams. Enveloping the space are large lightboxes, featuring dramatic imagery of a flipped iceberg by Alex Cornell. The entire effect is that of a gallery space, where the warm, textured layers and materials of the outerwear are the main event.
From the inception, rpa:group has provided a range of support, through the tender and procurement stages and offering full Quantity Surveying and Project Management services. The design was undertaken by Mackage’s internal design team in Canada and rpa:group worked closely alongside the Canadian based team, successfully overcoming any challenges that arose through delivering a design concept so remotely.
