Former Greene King CEO joins UK holiday park operator, Away Resorts.

Away Resorts, a leading UK holiday park operator, is delighted to announce that renowned entrepreneur and business leader Rooney Anand has joined the company as its new Chairman and investor.

Founded 10 years ago by leisure entrepreneur Carl Castledine, Away Resorts now operates six leading resorts in prime UK destinations, including Tattershall Lakes in Lincolnshire and Whitecliff Bay on the Isle of Wight, hosting 200,000 holidaymakers each year.

Earlier this year, investment firm Bregal Freshstream acquired Away Resorts from its previous private equity owner LDC, pledging to invest £25 million across the portfolio in the coming years. The addition of Rooney as Chairman will further accelerate the company’s growth plans.

Rooney served as CEO of Greene King for 14 years and was previously Managing Director of the FTSE 250 company’s brewing division.

Prior to joining Greene King, Rooney built a career in the food industry at Sara Lee Bakery UK and before that with United Biscuits in a variety of marketing, commercial and general management roles.

In addition to his Chairman role at Away Resorts, Rooney is Chairman of Casual Dining Group and Chairman of Purity Soft Drinks.

Carl Castledine, Founder and CEO of Away Resorts, said: “Away Resorts are delighted to welcome Rooney as Chairman. Leadership skills and experience will be a huge advantage as we put our ambitious expansion plans into action. I’m looking forward to building what I’m sure will be a very successful relationship with Rooney.”

Rooney Anand, Chairman of Away Resorts, said: “I am very excited to be joining and working with Away Resorts as Chairman. I have been so impressed by Carl and his team and by the huge potential of the business. I look forward to helping Away Resorts continue its mission of offering brilliant breaks to so many across the UK.”
